PIPS are plastic bushings designed to fit in the end of a steel service pipe into which polyethylene pipe is being inserted. The use of a "pip" eliminates the need for reaming the cut end of the service pipe. The hole in the bottom of the "pip" is net to the outside diameter of the polyethylene pipe, thus preventing damage. When "pips" are pressed inside the end of old service polyethylene, new pipe will bear against the "pip" instead of the old pipe, preventing scoring.
